Process / Production Engineer Job Description

The Process / Production Engineer is responsible for process design, implementation of process improvements, and troubleshooting to maintain and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of production processes. The role aims to reduce costs, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability.

He/she may lead or contribute to developing, configuring, and optimizing production processes from inception through startup and delivery. The engineer solves problems and makes process design recommendations to improve installations and reduce total ownership costs.

The Process / Production Engineer may execute process improvements as CAPEX projects and act as project manager from initial budgeting and design to project delivery for production.

This role works closely with Operations management and Maintenance/Technical Managers to ensure an integrated approach to asset and installation design and operation.

The level of the Process / Production Engineer depends on organizational size, scope of projects, and process complexity. In larger organizations, specialization may occur; in smaller ones, responsibilities may be broader.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop, configure, and optimize production processes from inception to startup and certification.
2. Research and develop new equipment; draft technical project objectives and proposals; determine specifications aligned with operational standards; complete technical studies and cost estimates.
3. Evaluate and validate design alternatives to create optimal solutions; certify design accuracy and associated financial cases.
4. Process Management and Troubleshooting: Oversee production processes, support optimization, troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and suggest preventive solutions.
5. Monitor equipment performance, conduct regular testing, and ensure maintenance tasks are performed.
6. Projects: Participate in or lead CAPEX projects, ensure projects are completed within budget and time, manage installation and startup, and develop process documentation.
7. Continuously evaluate and improve equipment and processes to maintain high efficiency and quality.
8. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance effectiveness and efficiency, develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions.
9. Technical Leadership: Stay updated on process management developments, act as a technical consultant, and contribute to technical standards development.
10. Compliance: Ensure process documentation complies with regulations, perform risk assessments covering safety, health, and food safety, and address unsafe situations promptly.
