Abyss Energy is seeking a Principal Project Engineer (Installation Methods) to join the Pipeline Group in our Paris office. The role oversees installation method coordination for global projects and leads a diverse team of installation engineers to solve complex offshore challenges.

You will provide technical leadership on reel lay, J-Lay and S-Lay methods, support tendering, procurement and HSEQ, and ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the installation engineering team on projects in progress

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Engineering/Marine/Naval/Offshore Technology / Civil / Mechanical or equivalent.
• Extensive experience as a project engineer in offshore energy.
• Experience in leading engineering teams.
• Experience with offshore pipeline installation methods (Reel Lay / J-Lay / S-Lay).

Responsabilités

• Support or lead a team of installation method engineers from early engagement to offshore execution.
• Be a technical reference for pipeline installation and contribute to subcontractor selection.
• Produce installation method statements and procedures, support procurement and subcontract follow-up.
• Perform installation rigging calculations and rigging design.
• Assist Tendering with feasibility studies, method statements, manhour estimates, schedule inputs and costing.
• Support installation aid procurement, fabrication and testing follow up.
• Follow scope offshore on installation vessels.

We are looking for a Principal Project Engineer (Installation Methods) to join our Pipeline Group (PG) team at Paris office.
PG supports pipelay projects globally and our installation engineers play an integral part in finding solutions to complex engineering problems. Our engineers are recognised for their expertise and can oversee specific critical subjects either on business improvement, or projects.
Your role will involve working in, or leading, a diverse team of installation engineers, coordinating various methods of pipeline installation for work assignments on global projects either in progress or in the process of tendering. You will support the efficient day-to‑day running of the installation engineering team and provide regular operational reports on general project engineering activities, technical subject matters, and resource management.

This will be a varied role but some of the main responsibilities will be:

Supporting, or leading, a team of method engineers to follow project scope(s) from early engagement with our internal and external clients through to offshore execution on board our reel lay/S lay or J Lay assets.

You’ll be a technical reference for pipeline installation and contribute to the sub‑contractors selection.

Produce installation method statements and procedures, support procurement activities and subcontract follow up, proactively support HSEQ activities and prepare and deliver technical presentations.

Installation rigging calculations and rigging design.

Assist Tendering department with feasibility studies, method statements, manhour estimates, schedule inputs and costing support.

Supporting installation aid procurement, fabrication and testing follow up.

Follow your scope offshore on our installation vessels.

What experience would we like you to have?

Degree qualified in Engineering/Marine/Naval/Offshore Technology / Civil / Mechanical or equivalent

Extensive experience as a project engineer, the majority of this from within the offshore energy industry.

Experience in Leading engineering teams

Experience, or an understanding of, offshore pipeline installation methods, ideally within the reel lay discipline (i.e., Reel Lay, J-Lay, S-Lay)

Experience of guiding and leading teams of engineers in project scopes

You should be a clear communicator, able to speak with all levels within the business, who is comfortable working on their own and as part of a team
