Positions Available: 1

Hours per Week: 40 (with the opportunity for overtime)

Salary: $26.44/hour

The Role: As an Industrial Truck Driver, the candidate will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid/solid hazardous and commercial waste from various sites. The candidate will be required to load and unload trucks and have the ability to operate a variety of industrial trucks and equipment including vacuum trucks, box trucks, and any other equipment that fits their license on site if necessary.

Education:
• Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience:
• Minimum of 1 year of experience operating industrial vacuum trucks
• Commercial driver’s license; DZ class license

On site:
• Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Work setting:
• Various locations

General Tasks:

  1. Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  2. Familiarization and ability to utilize different types of industrial vacuum trucks.
  3. Coaching colleagues on new methods or work procedures.
  4. Provide exceptional and professional customer service to maintain strong customer relations.
  5. Load and unload goods.
  6. Complete service paperwork in accordance with GFL and TDG Regulations.
  7. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  8. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
  9. Perform brake adjustments.
  10. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle.
  11. Perform preventive maintenance.
  12. Receive and relay information to central dispatch.
  13. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled and fuel consumption.
  14. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo.

Specific Tasks:

  1. Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
  2. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  3. Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  4. Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  5. Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  6. Familiarity and experience working with government documents such as manifests.
  7. Perform trip inspections on equipment operations and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
  8. Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver’s hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration and weights and dimensions.
  9. Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  10. Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests, etc. by manual or electronic means.
  11. Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.
  12. Perform periodic inspections before, during, and after delivery to ensure that load is properly fastened down and is secure.
  13. Deliver product and proper paperwork to our customers in a courteous and timely manner.
  14. Ensure that any debris caused by the loading/unloading of truck is cleaned up.
  15. Provide feedback to supervisor regarding customer problems, mechanical problems, or delivery problems.

Documentation Knowledge:

  1. Accident or incident reports.
  2. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip).
  3. Maintenance and repair reports.
  4. Trip reports.

Security and Safety:

  1. Driver’s validity licence check.
  2. Driving record check (abstract).

Transportation/travel information:

  1. Drive manual transmission vehicle.
  2. Valid driver’s license.
  3. Vehicle supplied by employer.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  1. Overtime required.
  2. Physically demanding.
  3. Sitting.
  4. Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
  5. Hand-eye coordination.
  6. Bending, crouching, kneeling.

Weight Handling:
• More than 45 kg (100 lbs)

Own Tools/Equipment:
• Steel-toed safety boots
