Job Description: Industrial Designer at Safran Seats

Safran Seats specializes in designing and producing aircraft seats for all classes, including pilot and crew, economy and premium-economy, business, and first class. Our direct customers are airlines worldwide, with passengers as the end-users of our products.

As an Industrial Designer within our team, you will champion the passenger experience. Your mission is to deliver innovative and improved aircraft seating solutions by collaborating closely with marketing, sales, engineering, and program teams. You will be involved from the initial concept stage through to production, transforming market insights into products that enhance passenger comfort while considering technical constraints.

Designers report to the Passenger Experience & Industrial Design Manager and are part of the Passenger Experience Team.

Responsibilities

• Generate new concepts through hand sketching and 2D/3D software.
• Participate in innovation competitions internally and externally.
• Create innovative 2D cabin layout drawings (LOPA).
• Collaborate with product architects to develop modular platform product lines, ensuring flexibility, customization, and airline branding.
• Maintain design intent and focus on passenger experience.
• Create high-quality renderings of products using Airline CMF.
• Support co-creation phases with airlines and design agencies.
• Present products at tradeshows and customer seat shows.
• Provide ongoing support to programs by liaising between marketing teams, design agencies, and engineering.
• Advocate for the end-user experience, representing the voice of the customer.
• Present and defend projects and seat concepts to internal teams, customers, suppliers, and media.
• Assist with physical mockup creation by working with prototype shops and generating 3D printed parts for validation.

Skills and Experience

• Fluent in French.
• Proficient in 3D modeling (preferably Rhinoceros 6).
• Proficient in 3D rendering (preferably Blender).
• Skilled in hand sketching.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Basic understanding of mechanical design and human factors.
• Interest and curiosity in aviation and transportation industries.
