The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) is a non-profit international research institute dedicated to food, nutrition, and livelihood security as well as environmental rehabilitation in South Asia, which is home to more than 300 million undernourished people. We are seeking dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-oriented professionals for the position of Research Associate (Vegetable Agronomy)

The position will be based in Jabalpur.

The main responsibilities of this position will be:

  • Lead or contribute to literature reviews.
  • Contribute to study designs on technology assessment, suitability.
  • With the guidance of WP Leads and/or other team members oversee data collection, management and analysis as needed.
  • Contribute to preparation of manuscript or study reports.
  • Contribute to a program on innovations in vegetable science and nature-based solutions together with modern agronomic practices in South Asia.
  • Expertise in cutting edge quantitative approaches and systems analysis to support partners in the design, evaluation and refining of key agricultural technical innovations in the South Asian region.
  • Work with partners to develop an efficient and dynamic understanding of nutrient efficiency and climate resilient properties of sustainable cropping.
  • Develop and publish strategies for resource use efficiency using modern agriculture tools and techniques.
  • Develop and evaluate scaling models for transforming vegetable systems of South Asia.
  • Publish research findings in open access formats and ensure monitoring and evaluation and reporting efforts are met.

Requirements

We are seeking candidates with the following academic qualifications, experience, skills, and attitudes:

  • Masters and PhD in horticulture, with specialization in Vegetable Science agronomy and in crop modeling
  • Area of Expertise: Vegetable Agronomy, Crop Modeling, Sensors, GHG .
  • Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications and research reports.
  • Familiarity with technology assessments /suitability.
  • Familiarity with analyses of production system constraints of vegetable production systems
  • Experience with topics related to vegetable plant protection issues, nutrition and cropping systems.
  • Experience with conducting and overseeing data collection activities in LMICs.
  • Experience contributing to reports and/or publications.

Desired experience:

  • Language proficiency in a UN language.

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year with annual renewal subject to performance. Thereafter, the contract would be renewed based on overall performance and the continued availability of funds. BISA offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
