- work environment:
The European Better-B project aims to improve the resilience of beekeeping to abiotic stress factors such as climate change, habitat loss and hazardous chemicals. The LMGC Wood team's involvement in this project focuses more specifically on the influence of the hive's constituent material and any treatment or coating, on the hygrothermal properties of the air inside the hive.
- main mission:
As part of the Better-B project, field surveys in partner countries are being carried out to gather information on the materials and coatings used in the manufacture of beehives. The researcher recruited will characterize and compare these materials in terms of their influence on the climate inside the hive. The results obtained will also be incorporated into a guide for beekeepers, designed to provide information and recommendations for hive design and construction in the context of a changing climatic environment.
- activities:
- Analyze field surveys of materials and coatings used in the manufacture of beehives
- Conduct bibliographical research on the physical and mechanical properties of the materials and coatings surveyed (density, shrink-swell coefficients, diffusion kinetics, etc.).
- Set up an experimental protocol to characterize the deformations and curvatures involved in hygroscopic variations of the various woods and coatings used in the manufacture of beehives.
- Study the influence of board assembly.
- Set up an experimental protocol to characterize moisture diffusion kinetics through the walls of different woods and coatings.
- Analyze and compare results
- Disseminate and promote knowledge: progress reports, presentation of results to project committees, presentation of results at a national or international symposium.
The net monthly salary is between €2,200 and €2,270
