About the Team

Our People team's mission is to grow exceptional people in an exceptional environment. We are made up of three subteams: People Operations, People Experience & Success, and Talent Acquisition.

We are a globally distributed People team with team members in Canada, the US, France, Portugal, and Serbia.

Reporting to the People Operations Manager, you will join a team of two People Operations Specialists and two Payroll Specialists. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across the People, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure efficient and compliant people operations.

About the Role

As our Compliance Specialist, you will lead compliance and global mobility initiatives across multiple countries such as Canada, the US, France, Australia, Serbia, and Portugal. As Gorgias continues to scale rapidly, this is an exciting opportunity to evolve and optimize our compliance and mobility strategy.

We're looking for someone who is highly detail-oriented and can effectively translate complex legal jargon into practical People policies and programs. Your expertise will help us identify potential compliance risks and implement proactive solutions.

What You'll Do

  1. Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with local and international employment laws, regulations, and policies as we scale.
  • Provide guidance to HRBPs and Talent Acquisition on compliance matters.
  • Partner with our internal Legal team and various external employment counsel to ensure compliance and identify potential risks.
  • Update and maintain compliance documentation including employment letters, employee handbooks, and company policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in labor laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely policy updates.
  • Immigration
    • Review and manage global mobility processes including visas and work permits for employees relocating to another office hub.
    • Partner with external immigration lawyers and government agencies to ensure compliance with immigration policies and work authorization requirements.
    • Partner with People Ops Specialists and HRBPs to support relocating employees.
    • Advise employees on company mobility policies and processes.

    Who You Are

    • Proven experience in HR compliance, global mobility, or employment law within a scaling and globally distributed company.
    • Strong understanding of international employment laws and global mobility processes.
    • Experience managing multiple immigration cases at once.
    • Ability to navigate and advise on compliance regulations in new geographies.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving company where processes need to be refined or built.

    Nice to Have

    Experience electing and managing a Social and Economic Committee in France, also known as Comité Social et Économique (CSE).
