Job Description

This is a management role and involves leading the RSA Europe General Liability, Professional Indemnity and Technology lines of business to deliver profitability in line with the Company and Group objectives. This role has accountability for the overall performance of the RSA Europe General Liability, Professional Indemnity and Technology Portfolio, including shaping the strategy and leadership across multiple product lines and geographical locations.

You will spend your time leading the development and implementation of agreed business targets, developing and implementing segment strategy, influencing key internal matrix stakeholders, driving through change and ensuring KPI’s and operating targets are achieved. A key aspect will also be monitoring the marketplace to identify, assess and make appropriate strategic decisions about opportunities and/or threats presented by new and/or emerging developments.

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and implementation of strategy in order to: Deliver the required contribution from the portfolio, including business growth, profitability, operating targets, return on investment and shareholder value. Drive competitive advantage through strong and differentiated customer value propositions.
  • Leading the line of business within the different countries and influencing internal matrix stakeholders to develop and deliver the strategies and drive performance in line with strategic objectives.
  • Promoting a high-performance trading culture across the portfolio to support and enable delivery of the segment strategies and operating plans.
  • Monitoring the Global portfolio marketplace to identify, assess and make appropriate strategic decisions about opportunities and/or threat presented by new and/or emerging developments.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key external stakeholders including investors, customers, reinsurers, brokers, business partners, regulatory bodies and other agencies.
  • Representing RSA Europe externally, taking a leading role in influencing market expectations, direction, standards and legislation in line with RSA Europe`s best interests and commercial priorities and promoting RSA Europe as a leading insurer.
  • Leading, monitoring, managing, controlling and improving department business operations, resources and performance in line with agreed performance targets, standards, budgets and wider business objectives.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with other business areas, functions and market experts in order to maximise the effective operation of the team/department/unit.
  • Recruiting, managing, coaching, developing and motivating the management team/department/local teams to ensure delivery of the required standards of performance now and in the future.
  • Size & Scope: RSA Europe wide portfolios (produced and serviced business) across Europe
  • Products: General Liability: 52M Sum of current GWP. Professional Indemnity: 5M Sum of current GWP. Technology: 273K Sum of current GWP.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Master degree or equivalent (e. g. qualified ACII ) with profound experience in Commercial Insurance Underwriting
  • You will have extensive experience in development and delivery of underwriting and market strategy within Liability lines to achieve sustainable profitability
  • Experience of working extensively with senior clients and partners
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Liability Insurance underwriting good practice, regulatory frameworks, business strategy, global operations, and commercial pricing models and methodologies
  • Spain/Belgium/France/ Netherlands based
  • Able to approve RSA Europe risks up to an A Licence level
  • Health & Safety: Demonstrates full compliance with all legal requirements and all relevant RSA policies

Capabilities:

  • Commercially astute with demonstrable track record of taking accountability for delivery
  • The ability to motivate others as well as influencing audiences outside of his/her direct control
  • Proven experience in delivering a profitable portfolio, either by increasing this or turning it around
  • The resilience, drive and character to success in a matrix structure
  • Strong skills in relationship and stakeholder management
  • Track record of successfully leading transformation, developing and driving the implementation of changes across multi-cultural teams
  • Adherence to legal and regulatory framework
  • Senior License holder in Liability lines of business
  • Experience of developing, leading and coaching and building high performance across multicultural teams, and improving overall effectiveness
