Mission

The Group Legal and Compliance team of ArcelorMittal is looking for a Head of Legal for Antitrust & Competition law . The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years post graduate experience in managing antitrust and competition law matters internationally and will be providing high-quality legal services to several companies of the ArcelorMittal group.

Responsibilities

  • Managing antitrust matters in research & development, M&A transactions, distribution & trade policies and agreements.
  • Coordinating antitrust investigations internationally, working closely together with outside counsel.
  • Driving antitrust compliance, by delivering trainings and developing policies and guidance material.
  • Monitoring the performance of the compliance program and related activities on a continuing basis; and conducting periodic reviews, or self- assessments, and employing the results to take appropriate steps to improve effectiveness of programs.
  • Initiating and / or coordinating antitrust litigation
  • May include advising on State aid matters and on the legal aspects of international trade matters (e.g. anti-dumping; anti-subsidy)
  • Working in close collaboration with colleagues in other jurisdictions and other disciplines.
  • Identifying, monitoring and informing the legal network on recent developments in competition law arising from case law or regulations, that could have an impact on the business or its strategy.
  • Developing strategies and techniques to identify and mitigate potential legal, regulatory or compliance risk; monitor and ensure the organization is promptly and effectively advised on upcoming and current policy and regulation related to compliance.
  • Providing thought leadership, at all levels of the organization, around compliance excellence, risk management and reputation of Arcelor Mittal
  • Being the contact point for relevant stakeholders in order to discuss and provide legal solutions.

The function supports our business internationally on a diverse range of legal topics in conjunction with – where needed – expert support from specialized internal or external legal counsel. In that regard, the group Head of Legal for Antitrust and Competition law :

  • Provides legal support to day-to-day business related to environmental, sustainability and climate issues and strategies for Luxembourg, European and even international issues;
  • Protects and defends business interest in dispute resolution scenarios related to environmental, sustainability, climate change and international trade, including developing a strategy and assess any settlement option.
  • Attends internal and external meetings with third party stakeholders and, where appropriate, assist directly in negotiation with third parties.
  • Retains, manages and monitors external law firms and related costs in line with the business needs.
  • Actively participates in and supports international legal initiatives. Regularly shares best practices, new challenges or developments, innovations and efficiency related projects.
  • Stays up to date on regulatory and legal changes.
  • Negotiates with internal and external stakeholders, suppliers, as well as authorities.
  • Collaborates with other Legal team members and exchange on best practices.
  • Identifies, develops and delivers legal trainings to the business.
  • Represents Legal affairs in Professional Associations.

You will have a minimumof 15 years of post-qualified experience in antitrust and competition law gained in an international law firm or as In-House Counsel.

Experience in managing cross border filings and having previously worked across jurisdictions is required.

In addition, the role requires you to be a recognized expert in the following fields :

  • European and International Antitrust Law
  • Experience with EU and Antitrust Filings in multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience in antitrust litigation

Experience in trade law is a plus.

Fluency in English is a must. Fluency in another language will be considered an asset.

Education :

  • Degree in Law.
  • US / European / UK Bar Admission would be an asset.

Skills :

  • Strong communications skills : the ability to effectively communicate in an international, multicultural environment, and with various stakeholders is essential.
  • You have good change management capabilities, can drive change in a moderate way.
  • The willingness and capability to be a “hands-on” lawyer, to analyze and solve complex legal issues, with a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic approach.
  • The willingness to develop a thorough understanding ArcelorMittal’s businesses, its people, markets, facilities and customers.
  • Ability to understand priorities and to see the bigger picture, self-reliant and self-responsible.
  • Being a good team player, loyal and transparent is key.
