Back Market is looking for a Head Of Engineering to lead our shipping & finance organization.

The mission of the shipping & finance group is to architect and scale the core systems that enable seamless payments financial operations and shipping logistics across our global marketplace ecosystem . We ensure that every transactionbetween buyers sellers and the platformis secure reliable and efficient.

As the engine behind payments and fulfillment we build the infrastructure that powers split payments commission management tax compliance reconciliation seller payouts and real-time financial reporting. On the shipping side we orchestrate the movement of goods through diverse logistics providers ensuring fast trackable and cost-effective delivery for all users.

Our work directly influences customer satisfaction seller success and marketplace integrity. We partner closely with Product Finance Legal and Operations to create robust platforms that scale with the business and support ongoing engineering managers will directly report to you each managing a cross-functional team of 6 to 9 engineers.

The core competencies of this role include mentoring and coaching people cultivating a collaborative team leading delivery production operations and continuous improvement. As in Back Market we lead by example we expect the role to also be hands-on so personal contribution is expected.

  • Collaborating with the product group and other tribes to align the team with company objectives and initiatives across engineering and the wider business
  • Ensuring the development of people and teams through ongoing coaching and mentoring
  • Creating a team environment where team members feel like they belong and are supported to do their best work.
  • Establishing open communication and a culture of feedback between team members
  • Working in an agile build it and run it environment where engineering teams build launch monitor and support the sections they own
  • Working with the team to identify and make improvements in our processes practices and product
  • Supporting teams in increasing delivery proficiency by creating a learning environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the engineering teams responsible for Payments Financial Systems and Shipping ensuring delivery of secure reliable and high-performing platforms.
  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for mission-critical systems that power buyer payments seller payouts commissions tax handling invoicing reconciliation and logistics integrations.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment with Product Finance Legal and Operations teams to deliver scalable solutions that meet both customer needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and security in all financial and payment flows including PCI DSS tax reporting and marketplace-specific financial obligations.
  • Oversee shipping and fulfillment engineering including carrier integrations label generation tracking return flows and logistics cost optimization.
  • Champion engineering best practices including service reliability (SLOs / SLAs) observability testing and continuous deployment across all systems under your scope.
  • Mentor and develop engineering leaders fostering a high-performance inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Own KPIs and outcomes such as transaction success rate payout cycle time invoice accuracy shipping speed and system uptime.

  • Technical interview around System design API & Technical leadership (1h30)
  • Stakeholder interview with one of our product manager and someone from business (1h)
  • BM value interview (45 min)
