The International Potato Center (CIP) is actively seeking a dynamic leader for the role of Head of Digital and Data. We are looking for a visionary professional passionate about leveraging digital technologies and data-driven strategies to foster innovation and impact in agricultural research and development. This role involves shaping and implementing our digital transformation agenda, utilizing technology and data to address global challenges in food security and sustainable agriculture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and articulate a comprehensive digital and data strategy, emphasizing AI technologies to revolutionize scientific research, aligned with CGIAR’s Digital and Data strategy.
- Collaborate with senior leadership and CGIAR Digital and Data teams to identify and prioritize initiatives that deliver value, accelerate innovation, and support CIP2030 strategy.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies, sharing insights with stakeholders. Lead drafting, negotiation, and management of subgrant agreements with partners.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to support CIP’s portfolio implementation.
- Ensure compliance with CIP’s Health & Safety policies at all levels.
- Oversee the digital development unit, including IT infrastructure, software development, cybersecurity, and user support, integrating AI where applicable.
- Ensure digital systems' robustness, security, and scalability, leveraging AI for predictive maintenance and optimization.
- Assess needs for shared digital services and develop strategies to enhance CIP’s capabilities.
- Lead the data science unit, focusing on AI applications for data analysis, insights, and evidence-based decision-making.
- Develop and maintain a data strategy, ensuring data governance, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical use, aligned with F.A.I.R. principles.
- Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to identify opportunities, design experiments, and translate findings into outcomes.
- Build strategic partnerships with external vendors, academic institutions, and industry to access resources and expertise.
- Work with internal teams to understand digital and data needs and develop tailored solutions.
- Design training programs to enhance internal capabilities in digital and data science.
- Co-design innovations with the CGIAR Global Digital and Data team, aligning with CGIAR Partnership Framework.
- Contribute to CGIAR initiatives and share CIP’s experiences and best practices.
- Participate in projects, working groups, and capacity-building activities to advance CGIAR’s digital and data agenda.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and technical expertise within the CGIAR Partnership.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree, with a PhD preferred, in computer science, information systems, data science, or related fields.
- Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in digital and data transformation, preferably in a scientific or research setting.
- Strong strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to translate goals into actionable plans.
- Deep technical expertise in software development, data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans aligning digital and data activities with organizational goals.
- Exceptional leadership, management, and operational skills in a complex, international environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English; knowledge of Spanish or other languages is a plus.
