Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a geotechnical engineer to lead technical reviews, develop construction-level documents, and oversee field exploration for dam and water resources projects. The role requires 5+ years in geotechnical engineering, a NY PE license or imminent eligibility, and strong writing and communication skills.

You will work on a variety of design teams, perform dam safety inspections, and contribute to reports and calculations using GEOSTUDIO, Rocslide, LPILE, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geology, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering; dams/water resources a plus.
• Master's degree in civil engineering is a plus.
• NY Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Dam engineering experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and writing skills.
• Experience with contract drawings and technical specifications.
• Proficient with geotechnical software such as GEOSTUDIO, Rocslide, and LPILE.
• Familiarity with HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical review for consultant projects, including reports, contracts, and specs.
• Review consultant design work on dam projects and safety classifications.
• Develop construction-level geotechnical documents for projects.
• Coordinate geotechnical field exploration programs.
• Review subsurface exploration logs and lab results.
• Prepare calculations for soil bearing, settlements, and slope stability.
• Develop memos and reports with recommendations.
• Perform dam safety inspections and site visits.
• Assist other divisions within OGS D&C and perform other duties.
• Some travel is required.
