Overview

The Area Specialist Leader leads a team of deep domain specialists across AWS Products and Services. This team partners with the local sales team to accelerate AWS cloud adoption across services, solutions, workloads, and AWS offerings. The role reports to the Area leader and is responsible for planning Area-wide specialist resource investments and customer adoption plans for current and future services. The Specialist team engages in field motions with deep domain expertise in areas including Gen AI, High Performance Computing, Compute, Networking, Storage, Database, and Analytics, and conducts cross-service C-level conversations and motions toward Application Modernization, Business Transformation through technology, and AI/ML adoption. The Director of Specialist Organization for the Area will have revenue responsibility while leading a direct and cross-functional team of Sales, Business Development, and Solution Architect. The team also acts as an important feedback ingestion point from customers in the Area to feed the product and services roadmap at AWS.

You will lead domain-based discussions with C-suite executives and play a critical role in capturing the voice of the customer and sharing it with the Worldwide Specialist Organization to influence technology roadmaps and go-to-market strategy. This role contributes to overall business performance globally, measured by revenue growth, net new customers, and product/service influence. You will have experience as a leader of leaders with significant multi-vertical Area exposure and a track record of overachievement with relationships in large enterprises (e.g., F1000 and/or G2000 or similarly recognized organizations).

Key job responsibilities
  • Interact at the CxO/VP level as well as developers and technical architects to develop pipeline, secure lighthouse customers, drive top-line revenue, and explore strategic partnerships.
  • Build, manage, and close a pipeline of revenue in the Area your team supports.
  • Develop and deploy sales motions and programs leveraging AWS Field Sales, technology and consulting partner channels. GTM elements may include workshops, enablement, blueprints, proposals, collateral, POCs, incentives, and success measures.
  • Define, develop, and execute a comprehensive account/territory plan supporting multiple account teams to drive revenue and win goals.
  • Create and articulate compelling value propositions addressing specific customer needs.
  • Accelerate customer adoption through well-developed sales engagements and GTM strategy.
  • Drive revenue and market share while meeting or exceeding targets; develop and execute goals for long-term strategy with Data and Developer tools, Compute, Core Services, Migration/Modernization, or Business Applications.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across Solution Architecture, Business Development, Marketing, Partners, and Training to execute customer acquisition programs.
  • Define and drive operational processes and excellence with sales teams.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated expertise in technical sales of cloud computing-based products and services across and interfacing with AWS.
  • Proven track record of ownership and results; ability to lead a scaled sales organization across diverse organizations, management levels, cultures, and personalities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Experience communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across multiple teams and executive stakeholders.
  • Established track record of building rapport with customer executives (CEO, COO, CIO, CTO, CMO), building relationships, and closing large revenue accounts.
  • Experience negotiating complex deals with customers and partners; consistently exceeding quotas by acting in the customer’s best interest.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and motivating a sales organization to exceed defined goals.
  • BA/BS degree required.
  • Relevant sales experience with breadth/depth across multiple enterprise functional areas; experience in a heavily matrixed environment with cross-functional solutions-led GTM and sales motions.
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies (public and hybrid) with a technical background in engineering, computer science, or MIS a plus.
  • Recognized industry expertise in primary discipline(s) with public speaking and media experience.
