Chief Technology Officer (CTO) – Life Science Instrumentation | Strategic Leadership Opportunity

An award-winning life science instrumentation company is seeking an accomplished technical leader to join their team as Chief Technology Officer. This newly created, strategic position marks an exciting inflection point for the business as it enters its next phase of growth and impact.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior technical leader with deep experience in high-value, low-volume complex scientific instrumentation—particularly within life sciences. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the technology, product development, and commercialisation roadmap for a truly disruptive platform in the biophysical tools space.

About the Company

This innovative life science company has developed a first-of-its-kind platform enabling real-time, single-molecule analysis of biomolecular interactions. The insights it offers are unprecedented—unlocking new biological understanding and accelerating the development of more effective therapies.

The platform has already generated significant interest across academia and industry. It’s poised to become a defining technology in the field, making a substantial and lasting impact on biophysical research.

The Role

This platform is a complex scientific instrument, integrating hardware, software, biology, fluidics, and data science.

As CTO, you will be the driving force behind both the vision and execution of the company’s technology and product strategy. You will lead multidisciplinary teams across product development, ensuring timely, budget-conscious delivery of next-generation tools and services.

Beyond technical leadership, you’ll play a key strategic role—coaching and developing high-performing teams, setting manufacturing strategy, and aligning closely with commercial colleagues to deliver customer-focused innovation.

Key Responsibilities

As CTO, you will:

  • Lead and oversee the full product and service development lifecycle—from concept through to commercial launch.
  • Inspire and empower a high-performing, multidisciplinary team through effective leadership and hands-on engagement.
  • Collaborate with the commercial function to explore market needs and align technology development accordingly.
  • Set and oversee the company’s manufacturing strategy and supply chain partnerships.
  • Ensure projects meet user requirements and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Contribute as a core member of the senior leadership team, influencing both strategic direction and operational execution.
  • Represent the company externally at key conferences, industry forums, and with strategic partners.

About You

To be considered for this position, you will need:

  • A proven track record of technical and product leadership within the life sciences sector, particularly in complex scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience leading the development of integrated systems, encompassing hardware, software, biology, fluidics, and data science.
  • Demonstrated success in taking products from development through to commercial launch.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a passion for team development and cross-functional collaboration.
  • The ability to effectively manage a portfolio of projects, balancing technical rigour with commercial delivery.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
  • Commercial acumen and a delivery-focused mindset.
  • A degree or higher qualification in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., physics, biophysics, engineering, life sciences).
