Verkor in Bourbourg, France, is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to drive formation and testing processes for lithium‑ion battery cells on our Gigafactory line.

You will analyze lab and pre‑production data, perform root cause analysis, and collaborate with formation and assembly teams to improve safety, quality and productivity.

This role requires 8+ years in battery manufacturing, strong programming and data analysis skills, and experience with MES, SCADA and ML tools.

Qualifications

  • M.S. in Electrical/Electrochemical/Chemical/Materials Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with lithium-ion cell technology.
  • Senior Engineer: minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Experience in a battery manufacturing environment, particularly with cell formation and testing.
  • Experience with battery cell formation process design and SEI analysis in the lab.

Responsabilités

  • Conducting R&D work for battery cell formation and testing processes to improve safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Analyzing electrical performance data from lab experiments and pre-production operations to determine effects of formation equipment and processes.
  • Performing root cause analysis to identify and fix sources of defects.
  • Providing engineering support to the formation and cell assembly teams to resolve manufacturing process issues.

Based in Grenoble and Dunkirk (France), we have started operations at our Verkor Innovation Centre (R&D centre and 4.0 pilot line) which is now fully running and operational.

We now focus on enabling the successful start of production of our Gigafactory in Dunkirk (France). With this facility, our ambition is to ramp‑up mass production of low‑carbon lithium ion batteries to facilitate the decarbonization of European mobility.

We are currently looking for our future Formation Process Engineers and Senior Engineers to join our Process Development team based in our Gigafactory in Bourbourg, France.

As such, you are responsible for the processes that charge, discharge, degas, and measure the batteries.

The role will evolve from the setting up the Gigafactory line to supporting the SOP and the ramp‑up phase.

Main responsibilities:
  • Conducting research and development work for battery cell formation and testing processes to improve cell formation processes on safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Analyzing and evaluating battery cell electrical performance data collected in laboratory experiments and pre‑production operations to determine direct and interaction effects of the formation equipment and processes under evaluation.
  • Performing root cause analysis to systematically identify and fix sources of defects.
  • Providing engineering support to the battery cell formation team and cell assembly production team to resolve manufacturing process issues.
Requirements:
  • M.S. in Electrical/Electrochemical/Chemical/Materials Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with lithium-ion cell technology.
  • Senior Engineer: minimum of 8 years of experience
  • Experience in a battery manufacturing environment, particularly with lithium‑ion battery cell formation and/or testing.
  • Experience with battery cell formation process design and its influence on SEI analysis in the laboratory.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, defect reduction, and failure analysis.
  • Strong programming, statistical, and data analysis skills with tools such as Python, Matlab, Minitab, and JMP.
  • Machine learning experience, such as PyTorch, Keras, TensorFlow, and Scikit‑learn.
  • Experience with critical software for the Formation process, including MES and FMS (SCADA)
  • Experience in electrochemical and materials analysis using EIS, HPPC, SEM, EDX, and other characterization techniques.
