Role

As an ESG Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role in integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance considerations into Meridiam’s investment lifecycle. Under the supervision of Meridiam’s Head of ESG and Sustainability, you will work closely with the investment teams, portfolio companies, and senior leadership to drive ESG value creation and support sustainability reporting and strategy development across the portfolio. You will contribute to the implementation of Meridiam ESG Policies and Procedures by supporting the investment teams in defining and implementing the projects’ ESG strategies as part of the assets development phase. Throughout the portfolio management phase, your role will be to ensure the integration of Meridiam’s long term ESG and sustainability commitments within the assets’ management procedures.

The role also includes an important focus on ESG reporting and disclosure aligned, namely, with Meridiam’s commitments and international frameworks, as well as market intelligence regarding international ESG trends. You will also contribute to the reporting efforts, led by Meridiam’s dedicated specialist, to align with the European regulatory frameworks.

Based in Paris (France), the ESG Senior Associate will work under the supervision of the Head of ESG and Sustainability.

The ESG Senior Associate’s role consists of the following tasks.

Due Diligence & Integration:

· Ensure updates of the corporate ESG and sustainability due diligence procedures, templates and tools based, namely, on market trends, regulatory requirements, investors’ requirements, and findings from Meridiam’s investments.

· Participate to ESG and sustainability due diligence for new investments, in support of the investment teams, validating/identifying material risks and opportunities.

Portfolio Engagement:

· Support portfolio companies in developing and implementing ESG strategies, including decarbonization plans and ESG and sustainability targets.

· Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of ESG performance and key indicators across the portfolio.

Reporting & Disclosure:

· Participate in the ESG reporting aligned with frameworks such as TCFD, TNFD and UNPRI, in collaboration with other teams within Meridiam, namely Compliance, Asset Management, and Investors Relations.

· Participate in the preparation of Meridiam’s annual Impact Report and other ESG reports and investor disclosures.

· Coordinate the Société à mission bi-annual audits with other key teams/stakeholders within Meridiam.

· Ensure management of ESG consultants that support Meridiam’s ESG reporting efforts or in the development of corporate policies, guidance material and frameworks.

· Contribute to regulatory reporting efforts aligned with frameworks such as CSRD and SFDR.

Market Intelligence:

· Track evolving ESG market trends in Europe and globally.

· Advise internal teams on implications of ESG-related policy and initiatives developments.

Internal ESG Strategy:

· Contribute to the firm’s ESG initiatives, including on human rights, assets and Meridiam’s decarbonization trajectories, nature, and corporate citizenship.

· Ensure onboarding of new Meridiam employees joining the investment teams or the portfolio companies on internal ESG and sustainability strategy, procedures, tools and commitments.

Stakeholder Engagement:

· Represent the firm in ESG-related industry groups and conferences.

· Build partnerships with ESG consultants.


Background and experience required

· Between 6 to 10 years of relevant work experience in the field of ESG and sustainability primarily for an investment fund or a financial institution.

· Experience with the ESG requirements of development financial institutions (DFI) is considered an advantage.

· Familiarity with investment environments in various markets, including emerging markets, is a plus.

· Exposure to international benchmarks and frameworks (UNPRI, TCFD, TNFD, NZAM, etc.)

· Master of Science/Social/Sustainable Development studies or similar, with a demonstrated interest and understanding of ESG issues within the financial environment.

· Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Based in Paris (France).

· Fluent English and French.
