Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government is seeking an Equipment Operator III – Brush Cutter to perform advanced roadside vegetation maintenance and operate tractors and related equipment. You will plan cutting routes, inspect and maintain equipment, and support parish-wide events and emergency operations.

The role involves supervising crews in the absence of a Crew Leader, providing training to new operators, and contributing to the efficiency of the Vegetation Division’s work.

Qualifications

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government’s Equipment Operator III – Brush Cutting is responsible for performing advanced roadside vegetation maintenance to support safe and efficient parish operations.

In this role, the incumbent will be expected to perform roadside and lateral ditch vegetation maintenance—including grass cutting, minor tree and brush work, and landscaping—while operating tractors and related equipment, conducting routine maintenance, providing leadership support when needed.

The position is also expected to assist in seasonal, emergency response activities and parish-wide events, demonstrate professionalism in public interactions, and contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of the Vegetation Division’s operations.

• Valid Louisiana driver’s license
• Operates tractors, brush cutters, bush hogs, and related equipment to maintain roadside vegetation, lateral ditches, landfill areas, and other designated locations, ensuring safe and effective completion of assigned routes.
• Performs daily inspections of tractors, trucks, and implements; checks fluid levels, tires, lights, DEF tanks, and overall condition; reports mechanical or safety concerns to the Operations Supervisor or mechanic.
• Conducts routine maintenance including cleaning, greasing, sharpening blades, topping off fluids, changing tires, monitoring service hours, and preparing equipment for daily operations.
• Plans and executes cutting routes with a high level of situational awareness; documents route status and updates in the MGO system using a tablet; communicates progress, complaints, and route issues to supervision.
• Loads, fuels, and prepares all equipment and supplies needed for daily work and ensures units are cleaned and free of debris at the end of each shift.
• Relocates tractors and equipment to new cutting locations as operational needs change; assists other crews with equipment breakdowns, recovery and field challenges.
• Provides guidance and oversight of crews in the absence of a Crew Leader; assigns work areas, ensures crews are properly equipped, and trains new tractor operators on routes and safe operations.
• Supports monthly maintenance activities, special assignments, yard operations, and parish projects including concrete crushing, operating heavy equipment, burn pile activities, and landfill bush hogging.
• Participates in parish-wide events and emergency operations including Mardi Gras cleanup, hurricane response as a Tier 1 employee, rotational on-call duty, and overtime work as required.
• Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor.
• Complete all required annual trainings—including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity—in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government.
• Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.
