Job Description:

The New Development & Transformation Business Division is looking for an

Context:

The mission of the Business Division New Development and Transformation (BD NDT) is to innovate and develop new technologies, equipment, products, digital solutions in connection with the new areas in which Axens wishes to expand and in connection with the move to ecological transition.

To support this new development and its deployment, the BD NDT is looking for an Equipment Development engineer reporting hierarchically to the Technology Development Manager for Equipment.

Missions:

The role involves working with the Technology Development Manager for Equipment at Axens. The main focus is to propose and develop new proprietary internals/equipment for current and future Axens technologies, including equipment related to reactors, separators, exchangers, gas and liquid distribution, solid handling, and more. The development work covers both single and two-phase flows in various energy technologies such as oil, gas, renewable and synthetic fuels, recycling, hydrogen, combustion, and electrical furnaces.

Main Activities:

· Conduct fluid mechanics simulations by CFD internally or follow CFD work by third parties including IFPEN. This includes making 3D drawings via SolidWorks, meshing, using OpenFoam (via Simscale) and Fluent (or Comsol), post-processing, interpreting results, and conducting sensitivity analyses. Propose geometry improvements in coordination with Mechanical department and Technology Managers or Experts. Iterate CFD calculations to find optimal configurations considering efficiency, feasibility, and cost. Ensure calculation accuracy and model assumptions are adequate, and compare with experimental data if relevant.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement of existing equipment.
  • Contribute to transversality and work closely with Equipment sales team (Commercial BD) and Equipment Industrialization team (POP BD) up to the commercialization of the equipment.
  • Participate in the homologation of new equipment.
  • Support the Technical Assistance Team (TTS BD) in CFD requirements on equipment implemented on site.
  • Verify external CFD calculations (IFPEN or others).

Qualification and Experience:

  • Education in science, master's or PhD degree in Fluid Mechanics.
  • Autonomy in CFD software usage, knowledge of two-phase flow CFD models, and reliability.
  • Knowledge in mechanical design and metal working is appreciated.
  • Knowledge of chemical process engineering is appreciated.

Associated Skills:

  • Rigour and critical eye for analysis and comparison of scientific data in R&D reports and publications.
  • Multitasking ability, managing different studies simultaneously.
  • Synthesis and communication skills to share information with Technology Managers and Development Managers.
  • Open-mindedness to innovation, flexibility, and adaptability to schedule changes.
