Company Description

Created by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in 1986, Epicentre conducts field epidemiology, training, and medical research to support MSF's humanitarian goals. We have research centers in France, Niger, and Uganda, with epidemiologists on site. Our expertise covers infectious diseases (malaria, TB, HIV, cholera, Ebola, etc.), neglected diseases (leishmaniasis, trypanosomiasis, etc.), and rising chronic diseases in African countries, such as diabetes and cancer.

Job Description

Epicentre seeks an epidemiologist to join the Department of Field Epidemiology and Training (DEIF). This department manages operational research projects and supports MSF operations. The epidemiologist will assist in designing, planning, executing, and analyzing observational studies, including statistical analyses of surveillance data, population surveys (mortality, nutrition, seroprevalence), and cohort studies.

The role also involves contributing to scientific publications and translating research findings into practical operational recommendations for MSF interventions.

What You Bring

  • Design and implement research studies addressing operational questions related to MSF interventions.
  • Develop and revise study protocols and SOPs, supporting field teams in their execution.
  • Provide operational support, including organizing activities and supporting local recruitment.
  • Assist in data management, quality control, and database oversight, supervising data entry teams.
  • Perform data analysis using statistical models (regression, survival analysis, time-series), and prepare reports and publications.
  • Work with MSF teams to turn research findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Support other epidemiologists as needed.
  • Organize and facilitate study meetings and advisory committees.
  • Lead remote meetings effectively (advisory, support, interviews).
  • Integrate into a multidisciplinary, multinational team.
  • Promote research principles involving vulnerable populations.
  • Act as a trainer in Epicentre sessions for MSF staff when needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in epidemiology or biostatistics (required).
  • PhD or equivalent is an asset.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of field epidemiology and project management experience, including team leadership and operational research.
  • Experience in epidemiological analysis or modeling.
  • Experience with MSF or similar NGOs (preferred).

Technical and Interpersonal Skills

  • Proficiency in Kobo, STATA, QGIS, R.
  • Experience working with Ministries of Health and partners.
  • Strong report and publication writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.

Languages

  • Fluent in French and English (C1 level minimum).

  • Contract: 12-month fixed-term, full-time
  • Location: Paris, France, with field travel (2 weeks to 2 months)

  • Salary: According to Epicentre’s salary grid
