Responsibilities

Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient rooms and assigned areas for patients, visitors and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include but are not limited to:

• Emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors
• Using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines
• Demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment for patients and facility staff
• Cleaning locations such as patient rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas to meet health standards
• Wearing the proper protective equipment following guidelines
• Keeping storage, equipment and carts stocked, clean, and tidy
• Using pagers and other technology appropriately when needed
• Assisting in the laundry areas as appropriate
• May have access to technology applications depending on location and program availability

Physical Requirements

• Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs, lifting up to 40-50 lbs, and moving on flat surfaces or ramps
• Position requires standing for the majority of the shift
• May be exposed to noise from equipment

Schedule and Availability

Work hours vary by location and patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience
• Ability to use computer; prior cleaning experience is helpful
• Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods and cleaning chemicals is helpful
• Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is related
