About this team and role :

Are you excited about web technologies and the applications built on them that enrich users’ lives? Do you have a passion for helping engineers do their best work and grow in their careers?

We are hiring for two Engineering Manager positions :

  • Engineering Manager for the DOM team, responsible for the Gecko implementation of web standards including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Web APIs that power websites via Firefox.
  • Engineering Manager for SpiderMonkey JavaScript team, responsible for Mozilla's JavaScript engine and standards, which power the web experiences for Firefox users.

Both teams work primarily in systems programming (like C++, Rust, or WebAssembly) and write tests largely with HTML and JavaScript. Experience in systems programming or deep familiarity with low-level software architecture is highly valued.

What you’ll do :

  • Manage a team of software engineers working on storage, background, and system-level Web APIs and standards, or the SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine and related standards.
  • Mentor and guide a diverse team of engineers, inspiring collaboration, growing their careers, and empathizing with their needs.
  • Own the team roadmap, working closely with platform peer managers, product management, and technical leads to manage risks, allocate resources, and clear blockers.
  • Assign work to team members according to their abilities, while collaborating with the team to deliver major initiatives on clear timelines.
  • Ensure your team delivers well-planned, high-quality, and maintainable software.
  • Collaborate openly with the open-source community.

What you’ll bring :

  • 2+ years of hands-on people management experience.
  • Proven skills leading a diverse team of engineers, with the ability to mentor team members with different skill sets.
  • Strong project management skills to lead complex software projects.
  • Software engineering background to drive technical decisions and engage with engineers at all levels, empowering tech leads.
  • Proficiency with software development lifecycle practices.
  • Passion for problem-solving, risk management, leading change, and collaborative decision-making.
  • Experience with performance-critical, memory-sensitive system software, or systems programming is a plus.
  • Alignment with our values: welcoming differences, being relationship-minded, practicing responsible participation, and having grit.

What you’ll get :

  • Generous performance-based bonus plans.
  • Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Generous retirement contributions with immediate vesting.
  • Quarterly wellness days and country-specific holidays plus your birthday off.
  • One-time home office stipend.
  • Annual professional development budget.
  • Quarterly well-being stipend.
