About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to lead our local engineering team and oversee all engineering activities related to automation systems within our European Distribution Center (EDC) as well as across the broader EMEA region. Reporting to the EMEA MedTech Engineering Senior Manager, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing automation system strategies for both brownfield and greenfield projects, as well as equipment upgrades.

You will be responsible for leading project deployments through to operational stabilization, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with regulations and budgetary constraints. This is a key leadership position requiring strong communication, motivation, and team-building skills to coordinate multi-functional efforts and achieve business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop business plans, project timelines, and resource requirements to align with MedTech goals for distribution centers, supporting budget development and cross-functional projects.
  • Direct engineering activities on-site and at the EMEA level to support strategic plans, manage equipment downtime, and enhance process flow.
  • Design and deploy DC automation solutions using Industry 4.0 principles, including validation and change control.
  • Act as a change agent to promote innovative processes, recommend new equipment solutions, and implement cost-reduction and efficiency improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Partner with site teams for knowledge transfer, developing maintenance procedures for future self-sufficiency, and ensuring IT requirements are met.
  • Develop and monitor automation systems metrics, implementing process surveillance programs for quality and reliability in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Participate in department and sector collaboration on all Deliver engineering workstreams, not limited to automation.
  • Create training materials and procedures to support knowledge sharing and talent management activities, including hiring.
  • Provide preventive/corrective maintenance and troubleshooting expertise on automation systems.
  • Participate in risk management activities and develop standard operating procedures to uphold engineering best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with all workstreams to ensure smooth project execution and provide reliable updates to stakeholders.

Profile Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Experience in engineering, supply chain, or distribution, with a focus on Industry 4.0 solutions in distribution environments.
  • Proven experience in setting up and running logistics automation systems (e.g., Autostore, Shuttle).
  • Strong understanding of control systems and automation technologies (PLC, HMI, SCADA, OEE, WCS) and smart technologies (IoT, edge computing, AI/ML, digital twins).
  • Skilled in budget management, project planning, and business development.
  • Proficient in data analytics tools for extracting actionable insights from large-scale datasets.
  • Excellent communication, motivation, team-building, and delegation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of strategic logistics, supply chain management, transportation, and warehouse management.
  • Understanding of distribution operations and IT systems related to logistics.
  • Familiarity with European safety standards for equipment design and operation.
  • Collaborative team player, adaptable to diverse cultural settings, with a customer-focused approach to automation solutions.
  • Strong digital and financial acumen, with experience handling complex budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), and supply chain system architecture.
  • Experience with Agile (Scrum) and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Experience in New Product Introductions (NPI), Acquisition & Divestiture processes, and Order To Cash processes on ERP systems.
