Westman Immigrant Services (WIS) is a non-profit registered charity organization serving newcomers in the Western Manitoba region. With a vision of creating a generational impact for clients, our staff and our community. We liaise with community groups and organizations to work towards building capacity in our community for improving services to immigrants and refugees.

Overview: We are currently hiring for an Employment Facilitator. Working from the WIS offices in Brandon, an Employment Facilitator is responsible for assisting job-seeking clients with their employment needs, including credential recognition and career planning support.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing needs assessment to gather information on clients' employment, skills, and education background
  • Identify challenges and barriers to employment
  • Provide advice and assist clients in navigating the job market
  • Facilitate ongoing training, support for job search techniques, assistance with resume/cover letter writing and transportation assistance as required
  • Conduct interview preparation, mock interviews and employment-related documents
  • Follow up on client progress through their job search journey and beyond
  • Assist clients in obtaining credential recognition in their field
  • Develop partnerships with community stakeholders including service providers and employers to engage them in programming
  • Liaise with educational institutions to develop awareness of training and bridging programs
  • Maintain effective partnerships between departments for employment programming, work-readiness curriculum for specialized ESL classes etc.
  • Stay informed of current resources, trends, changes and services gaps in the community
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided, statistics, and prepare reports as required
  • Create an inspiring, engaging and collaborative atmosphere within teams and other WIS departments to achieve collective goals and deliver quality service to clients
  • Provide management with operational support as required

Skill, Ability and Licensing Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, plan and facilitate programming
  • Experience with employment placement and skill development
  • Public speaking, creative thinking and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of rural labour market including current state, navigation and challenges
  • Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, database management and related IT tools
  • Strong proficiency and ability to communicate in English
  • Provide a clear Criminal Record, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Driver Abstract; where required
  • Possess a valid Manitoba Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with management, employees, and community stakeholders in a diverse environment
