HyLight seeks a final-year master’s student to help shape how flight software is structured, built and tested for autonomous airships. You will focus on clean hardware interfaces, PX4 and ground station integration, and pipelines that keep a small team shipping reliably.
The role involves hands-on work with autonomous flight software on real airships, contributing to the data pipeline behind AI-based defect detection, and learning how sensor data becomes actionable for operators.
This internship asks for a final year master's student who can help shape how flight software is structured, built and tested. The work centers on clean interfaces over hardware, PX4 and ground station integration, and pipelines that keep a small team shipping reliably. A strong candidate brings solid C and C++ and Python foundations, some embedded project experience, and a genuine pull toward drones and aerial robotics.
The airship flies itself and its sensors feed an AI that turns LiDAR, imagery and methane data into defects and leak locations for operators. The embedded work stays human: deciding how onboard and ground software fit together, making hardware behave as one machine, and keeping builds and tests trustworthy. AI speeds up parts of development, but the architecture and reliability judgment remain with the engineer.
The role offers hands on work with autonomous flight software on real airships, plus exposure to the data pipeline behind automated defect detection. Building that experience means contributing to PX4 and QGC integration, writing tests and pipelines, and learning how sensor data from inspection flights becomes something operators act on.
