The Electronics Unit, part of the Detector & Electronics Group in the Instrumentation Services and Development Division (ISDD), provides expertise in:

  • Control electronics for the ESRF experimental stations and accelerator complex.
  • Fast digital electronics and data acquisition for detectors and sensors.
  • High-precision analog electronics for scientific instrumentation.

To strengthen its capabilities, the Unit is seeking an Electronics Engineer with background in instrumentation control, system integration, and signal processing. The position requires a proactive, solution-driven mindset, with a strong sense of service to internal users. We are looking for a technically competent engineer who can work both independently and collaboratively. Hands-on experience in electronics and familiarity with control systems and electromechanical integration are valued, as the role involves working with systems interfacing with mechanical components such as electrical motors for positioning.

Your main missions will be:

  • Support the ESRF’s experimental stations and accelerator in the development, integration, and maintenance of control electronics.
  • Specify, design, procure, install, and maintain electronic instrumentation and systems for control applications.
  • Lead or contribute to projects involving control hardware, including motion control, data acquisition, and signal processing.
  • Serve as a technical contact for control electronics support.
  • Monitor and promote new system architectures and technologies relevant to instrumentation control.

Expected profile

  • You should hold a higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS) in electronics, physics, instrumentation or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as electronics engineer dealing with control instrumentation related matters.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in one or more of the following fields: analog and digital electronics design including PCB, scientific instrumentation, motion control, and data acquisition and control systems.
  • Familiarity with technical projects and operations management
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Committed to deliver the best possible service.

  • Well organised and good documentation writing skills.
  • Ability to manage time and to prioritise and plan work effectively.

Working conditions
