Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France’s leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France. BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view tomeeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
You will be mainly responsible for:
- Setting up scientific bids (expert appraisals, research projects, commercial projects);
- Managing scientific and technical projects;
- Attending technical meetings with customers and partners;
- Geotechnical calculations (geotechnical modelling and instabilities);
- Ensuring scientific production (reports, studies, expert appraisals);
- Maintaining a scientific following in the state-of-the-art in the fields of geotechnics and ground instability hazards (landslides, rock instabilities, cavities collapses, swelling clays, etc.).
Context and contributions of the position :
For a more sustainable development and resilience of territories, the BRGM Risks department is in charge of the management of natural risks impacting the soil, subsoil and coastal area, as well as risks resulting from human activity, linked to sites and soils degraded by industrial or former mining activities.
In this context, the Risks Department brings its expertise to prevent and manage these risks.
This job position is attached to the ‘Ground instabilities Hazards Unit’ (landslides, rock instabilities, cavities collapses, swelling clays, etc.), which is part of the Risks Department.
You will demonstrate the following skills and abilities:

- Knowledge of geology, soil and rock mechanics, civil engineering and underground structures;
