2. Department Overview

The structured and securitized origination team, part of the Alternative Credit department managing over 50 billion in assets, includes the Insurance Linked Securities (ILS) team. This team, consisting of four investment professionals, manages ILS strategies across various instruments such as Cat Bonds, Industry Loss Warranties, and Sidecars.

3. Main Responsibilities

Assist the ILS team in monitoring natural catastrophes and analyzing counterparty exposure to these events.

Main tasks include:

• Analyzing insurance-linked securities (cat bonds) in the primary market through quantitative and qualitative methods; organizing investment committees with risk management and traders; monitoring secondary market activities for potential investments.
• Pricing instruments by selecting similar assets to evaluate new deals.
• Gathering event characteristics and loss data for (re)insurers using web scraping, text mining, and NLP techniques with R and/or Python, and importing data into Ouranos.
• Monitoring ILS instruments by extracting reports, performing data cleaning and formatting, and updating Ouranos with relevant information.
• Automating metrics extraction, analyzing catastrophe model outputs with SQL, modeling complex reinsurance treaties with Python or R, and calculating risk metrics for reporting in Ouranos.

Additionally, the intern may assist in enhancing AXA IM's responsible investment framework, particularly improving ESG analysis methodologies for ILS assets, including ESG scoring and sustainability risk assessments.

4. Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

• University or engineering/actuarial degree from a top institution, with backgrounds in Math, Physics, Finance, Actuarial Science, or Data Science.

Experience:

• Experience with complex data structures from internships or projects.
• Quantitative analysis experience in insurance, asset management, or financial markets is a plus.
• Proactive, organized, detail-oriented, autonomous, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Team-oriented, capable of multitasking, working under pressure, and synthesizing information.
• Curious and rigorous.
