RESPONSABLE EQUIPE PROJET - SPECIALISTE BIODIVERSITE H/F

Job Title: Responsable Equipe Projet - Spécialiste Biodiversité H/F

What will be your role?

Within the ARB division, your main missions will include:

  1. Ensuring the technical and financial appraisal, coordination of skills, and monitoring of operations related to biodiversity, rural development, and agriculture, in connection with AFD Group clients. This involves coordinating and leading the project team (legal, environmental and social support expert, procurement expert, climate expert, other technical experts, etc.);
  2. Contributing to the facilitation of a network of internal (other REPs and mission officers in various countries and thematic areas) and external actors to develop practices, knowledge, and operational, sectoral, and thematic intelligence for AFD Group;
  3. Mobilizing financial and technical partners during project appraisal and promoting AFD Group's influence in your sector.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Technical and financial appraisal, coordination, and monitoring of operations: Support agency project identification, assume responsibility for project appraisal and follow-up, assist clients in formulating suitable solutions, manage project teams, mobilize funding, ensure proper implementation, coordinate with co-financiers, and share operational experiences.
  2. Network facilitation: Contribute to strategic sector discussions, produce operational and thematic syntheses, engage with sectoral and thematic platforms, and maintain relationships with French and international stakeholders.
  3. Partner mobilization: Engage French and international partners for technical support and additional funding, represent the group in sectoral events, and communicate on sectoral initiatives.
  4. Specific thematic and geographic aspects: Manage projects related to territorial development, biodiversity preservation, protected areas, sustainable forest management, agricultural development, and rural development, with projects in China, Tanzania, and multi-country programs. Participate in cross-cutting biodiversity financing initiatives and international knowledge production.
Who are we looking for?

We seek an engineer, agronomist, environmental economist, or equivalent with expertise in ecology and natural resource management, with at least ten years of professional experience in biodiversity and ecosystem preservation/restoration. The candidate should have good knowledge of AFD procedures, project engineering skills, familiarity with European and international actors, and proficiency in English. Personal qualities include teamwork, communication skills, negotiation, rigor, autonomy, adaptability, listening skills, and political sensitivity.

Team and Organization

The position is based at AFD headquarters in Paris, within the Agriculture, Rural Development, and Biodiversity team (ARB), part of the Sustainable Development Solutions Department. The division manages approximately 300 projects across about 70 countries, with an annual project pipeline of around 50 new projects and a contribution of about one billion euros. It utilizes various financial instruments, including EU funds, CAFI, FVC, and others, focusing on ecological and productive transitions, resilient rural territories, and policies supporting ecological and territorial transitions.
