Position Overview

This position is responsible for collecting survey data as a member of a survey crew. The incumbent assists in obtaining field survey data by operating and reading state-of-the-art electronic survey instruments used in conducting route, bridge, hydraulic, and property surveys. Maintains high efficiency in daily field crew operations.

Essential Functions
  • Collect and process accurate land survey data using electronic surveying equipment.
  • Locate and set new alignments and right-of-way positions.
  • Place and recover aerial survey targets; collect and process photogrammetric control data using GPS and software.
  • Obtain topographic and planimetric data for plans, reports, right-of-way plats, and legal descriptions.
  • Maintain surveying instrumentation and equipment.
  • Analyze land surveying records and data; assist with preparing right-of-way plats, parcel sketches, and legal descriptions.
  • Comply with departmental safety rules and promote fair treatment of all employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois OR a bachelor's degree in land surveying from an accredited college/university plus successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying exam or Surveyor Intern license, OR a bachelor's degree in a related science with 24 semester hours of land surveying courses plus the exam/license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles, standards, and modern equipment.
  • Ability to perform advanced survey work and technical computations.
  • Basic skills in preparing right-of-way plats using CADD.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and GPS technology.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Extensive travel, including overnight stays, may be required.
  • Physically demanding outdoor work in various conditions, including active construction sites and roadways.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, and wade in water.
  • Must pass a background check.
