Qualifications

Description du poste

Overview

Looking for inland, coastal, licensed and unlicensed engineering positions. Maintain the vessel's engine room and equipment in a state of readiness to perform work for customers as needed. Perform start up and shut down, troubleshooting, and heavy maintenance of vessel power and propulsion systems. This job includes pulling heavy lines and hoses, working on oil and cargo barges, general vessel maintenance, and other tasks that may be assigned from time to time. Perform work as directed by Captain and Port Engineers.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Engine Room Work:

  • Preventive maintenance and underway repairs on main engines and gears, pumps, motors, plumbing, deck machinery (including towing winch(es)), and auxiliary generator units.
  • Perform routine periodic maintenance about tug and on barge as needed.
  • Maintain proper liquid levels and perform lubrication services for tug operations.
  • Log all maintenance and repairs in an electronic maintenance tracking program.
  • Monitor and record operating condition of engine room equipment.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly logs with proper readings and times.
  • Engine room must be kept clean and ready for operation at all times.
  • Maintain engine room bilges, z-drive room/rudder room in clean and neat order; ensure engine room is ready for operation at all times; hold engine room watch while underway.
  • Fill out material requisitions and work order forms.
  • Perform fuel transfers on tug.
  • Ensure paperwork requirements are met.

Other Duties:

  • Assist in loading supplies.
  • General cleanup of tugs and barges.
  • Operate all firefighting and lifesaving equipment aboard.
Qualifications
  • Valid TWIC.
  • Valid STCW endorsement on MMC.
  • Two (2) years previous work experience on marine diesels required.
  • Must be able to comprehend, respond and carry out specific orders from the Captain or immediate supervisor.
  • Must be able to work independently and without direct supervision.
  • Ability to learn and apply safety awareness, injury prevention, and firefighting techniques.
  • Must be able to understand and use information contained in cargo information cards and material safety data sheets.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid first aid/CPR training certificate.
  • Complete HAZWOPER training within 30 days of hire.
Job Condition and Environment
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, heavy seas, etc.).
  • Work at heights as necessary.
Expected Hours of Work
  • Work rotation watch involving 12 hours in a 24 hour period with occasional hours not to exceed 14 consecutive hours.
  • Equal time rotation.
