The Laboratoire national de santé (LNS) is recruiting a Medical Geneticist physician (m / f) for the National Center of Genetics for a permanent position on a full-time basis (40h / week)

The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.

The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.

In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application : medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL CENTRE OF GENETICS (NCG)

The NCG at the LNS has approximately 55 staff and is divided into three services : Clinical Genetics, Haemato-Oncogenetics-Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics. All genetic tests and clinical genetic consultations for patients in Luxembourg are performed exclusively by the NCG at the LNS. The Molecular Diagnostics Service carries out molecular genetic testing for ante-, pre- and postnatal constitutional genetics and is responsible for molecular pathology in collaboration with the National Centre of Pathology. The service also operates a next-generation sequencing platform (LUXGEN), including an Illumina NovaSeq 6000, and has extensive expertise in clinical bioinformatics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The genetics activity needs to be strengthened by the recruitment of a full-time clinical geneticist, in order to meet the following objectives in particular :

  • Provide clinical genetics services (e.g. rare diseases in child- and adulthood, cancer susceptibility syndromes, prenatal counselling);
  • Participating in medical validation of genetic analysis;
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings with those involved in genetic patient management;
  • Participate in the supervision of genetic counsellor and doctors undergoing specialization;
  • Monitor the literature on genetics and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and patient management recommendations;
  • Participate in genetics working groups within national public health programs and working groups (e.g. National Program for Rare Diseases, National Cancer Plan).

PROFILE :

  • Doctor in medicine with a specialty title in Human Genetics;
  • An authorization to practice medicine in Luxembourg is mandatory (https : / / guichet.public.lu / fr / entreprises / sectoriel / sante / medecins / medecin-generaliste-specialiste.html);
  • Relevant experience in clinical genetics;
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage urgent tasks efficiently;
  • Good command of spoken and written English and either French or German. Luxemburgish will be considered as an asset.
