Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is hiring a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instruction for students with disabilities in elementary and high schools. Under supervision of a Special Education teacher, you will reinforce learning concepts and provide one-on-one tutoring and personal care as needed.

The role includes assisting with daily living tasks, maintaining behavior records, and accompanying students on trips.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE or have completed 60 college hours and/or paraprofessional exam.
• Good knowledge of characteristics of students with disabilities, English grammar and spelling, basic mathematics.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to complete and maintain basic written reports.
• CPR training is highly desirable; those without it will complete training on the job.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the instruction of students with various disabilities in elementary and high schools.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of equipment, wheelchair and assistive devices.
• Take notes in class, help with homework and maintain behavior records.
• Accompany students on field trips and participate in workshops and trainings.
