The Town of Ayer, Massachusetts is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Mechanic for the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Division. The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 50 miles of roads, mowing public areas, snow removal, and maintaining stormwater systems.

Regular hours, CDL B and Hoisting licenses required or obtainable during probation; pay up to $34.99 per hour with license increments and overtime, plus boots/clothing stipends per the union

Qualifications

• High School education supplemented by one year of technical or vocational training as a mechanic.
• Five (5) years’ experience as a mechanic performing gasoline, diesel and hydraulic repair work.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

DPW Highway Mechanic

The Town of Ayer, Massachusetts is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Mechanic for the Department of Public Works (DPW) Highway Division.

The Highway Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 50 miles of roads, mowing public areas, snow removal, and maintaining stormwater systems.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintenance and repair work on gas and diesel vehicles, trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, and other DPW vehicles and equipment.

Desired Qualifications

• High School education supplemented by one year of technical or vocational training as a mechanic.
• Five (5) years’ experience as a mechanic performing gasoline, diesel and hydraulic repair work.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The following licenses shall be possessed or obtained during a probationary period: CDL B, Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer’s License (Hydraulics), and 4G Hoisting/Flailing. The Town of Ayer offers reimbursement of license-related fees.

FY27 rate of pay up to $34.99 per hour (includes license increments of $1.90 per hour). Overtime pay available. License increments include CDL B, hydraulics, hoisting, 4G flailing, asbestos cement pipe; stipends included for boots and clothing, per the union contract.

Regular work hours are 7:00AM to 3:30PM (Winter) and 6:00AM to 2:30PM (Summer).
