Morehead City is seeking a dedicated and skilled Utility Mechanic I to maintain and repair equipment at wastewater facilities, including lift stations, pumps, and related systems. This full-time role emphasizes preventive maintenance, safety, and accurate recordkeeping.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, basic experience, and the ability to read schematics, use hand and machine tools, and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Basic mechanical experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic plans and schematics.

Responsabilités

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair pumps, motors, valves, and plant equipment at wastewater facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and lubrication of bearings, gear boxes, filters, and related components.
  • Document results of tests (e.g., dissolved oxygen) and maintain records.
  • Utilize hand, bench, and machine tools for repairs and installations.
  • Support groundskeeping and minor site maintenance as needed.

UTILITY MECHANIC I

Morehead City is seeking a dedicate and skilled professional for the full-time position of UTILITY MECHANIC I. This position is essential to ensuring the efficiency and effective operations of numerous lift stations and other aspects of the wastewater treatment plant of Morehead City.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment and facilities to include wells, lift stations and tanks.
  • Performing preventive maintenance such as checking and lubricating bearings and gear boxes, checking and replacing filters, checking packing temperatures, maintaining pump valves, blowers, screens, generators, etc.
  • Performing tests such as dissolved oxygen and documenting results.
  • Using hand, bench and machine tools in the repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves and other plant machinery and equipment.
  • Removing and cleaning debris from well sites.
  • Performing general grounds keeping and landscaping duties such as mowing, weed eating, raking, painting, replacing shingles, etc.
  • Installing and/or making major repairs to engines, pumps, controls, and compressors.
  • Performing repairs on motors used for pumping.
  • Maintaining inspection and maintenance records and recommending necessary repairs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • General knowledge of the installation, repair, and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components of pump stations and water and wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • General knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work.
  • Skill in the use and care of the tools of the trade.
  • Ability to determine improper operation of pump station and treatment plant equipment, and to take proper remedial action.
  • A High School Diploma or GED and some experience (minimal), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The salary range for this position starts at $55,032. Placement above the minimum of the range will depend upon a candidate's successful qualifications and experience.
