• 12+ years of software-engineering experience.

• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, APIs, microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Exposure to fintech or high-volume environments is a plus.
• Proven ability to lead international teams in a complex matrix organisation.
• Strong people leadership and executive stakeholder-management skills.

We are supporting an international, technology-led organisation with the appointment of an Engineering Director to lead the strategy, delivery and continued evolution of its shared digital platforms. This role reports to C-Level.

This is a senior manager-of-managers role leading a large, internationally distributed engineering organisation. You will work closely with Product, Architecture, Security and Data leaders to build secure, scalable and reusable capabilities supporting multiple digital products and markets.

Key responsibilities

• Define and deliver the engineering strategy and technology investment roadmap.
• Lead, coach and develop Engineering Managers, technical leaders and distributed teams.
• Own engineering quality, scalability, reliability, security and operational performance.
• Drive platform-first and API-first approaches across identity, transaction services, mobile foundations and shared platform capabilities.
• Improve delivery, cost efficiency and engineering effectiveness through meaningful KPIs and OKRs.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to evaluate technical trade-offs and translate business objectives into engineering outcomes.
• Build a strong culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.

Your background

• 12+ years of software-engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading multiple engineering teams and Engineering Managers.
• Experience building and operating large-scale, enterprise-grade platforms in production.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, APIs, microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, observability and security.
• Exposure to fintech, payments, digital identity, marketplaces or another regulated, high-volume environment.
• Demonstrated success leading international teams within a complex matrix organisation.
• Strong people leadership, communication and executive stakeholder-management skills.
