Lead interface between the Chief Engineering team and the Product Release Center, primarily responsible for managing system interactions and interfaces between components and subsystems of the EDM gearbox.
Design Systems / Applications Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer for multiple programs.
Responsibilities include:
EDM Gearbox hardware system responsible (integration and system balancing of all EDM gearbox components)
Interfacing with individual Design Release Engineers and COEs
Manufacturing
Suppliers
Development Validation Center
Schedules hardware system design reviews across PRC and reviews DRE design proposals as required
Organize reviews with Virtual Analysis / CAE team and ensures Virtual DVP / Scorecard is completed prior to any prototype hardware orders
Manage Driveline System and Interface DFMEA / DRBFM (team) reviews to ensure complete transparency and development of cohesive Design Controls leading to Robust DVP Actions
Supports CE & ACE to develop FTE and ER&D/ED&D Cost Roll-ups for Minor/MCA/ New Programs
Review and approve all change notices ensuring checklists, LL, and E-BPs are updated and aligned.
Leads Technical Cost Reductions (TCRs) / Value Optimization (VO) effort and alignment working closely with PRC, DVC and VO teams - moved from AE responsibilities to align better
Represents CE in managing the "lessons learned” document for the program and ensures that TS (Technical Specialist) receives those updates on a timely manner to update the E-BPs accordingly
Reviews driveline system and applicable component "Validation Completion” status with DVC team periodically & provides update to CE
Coordinates DRBTR review and keeper of "follow up items” and decision maker on issuing GIMS for buds of problems
Manage CQI and GIMS cross functional task force teams working closely with ACE, create priorities, action plans and track progress, align and update initiatives list
Requirements:
0-3 years engineering experience
General knowledge of EDM Gearboxes, Drivelines, Axles or Transmission Systems and interface requirements
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presenting complex material to various audiences
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills with a bias for action and issue resolution
Ability to work under pressure and in a time constrained environment
Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
Self-motivated
Excellent organizational skills including prioritizing work assignments
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of engineering experience in driveline, axles, transmission, electrified driveline systems, or powertrain systems engineering experience
Gearbox, Driveline or Axle Design Release Responsibility
Master in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or Equivalent
Supervisory or leadership of small team experience
General knowledge and experience of powertrain duty cycle analysis
Ability to manage high volume of part/system complexity
Knowledge in powertrain product development processes
Knowledge in application of Functional Block Diagrams, Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R)
Green/black belt in Shainin or DFSS desirable
Experience with electric motors for automotive applications
Proven ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects to successful conclusion
System Level Thinker -The ability to understand how the different powertrain components and systems are interdependent
Excellent presentation skills
Education:
Bachelor in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical or Equivalent
