Description du poste

Design Process Automation Engineer

Date: 9 May 2025

Company: Alstom

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling, and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

All about you:

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every skill listed below. Instead, we’ve identified some that will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Ideally, you have experience in both process automation (creation of bots, use of optimisation tools, etc.) and mechanical engineering (material resistance, static simulations, weight management, etc.).
  • Alternatively, you have over 5 years of experience in programming, especially in Python, including optimisation activities. Your mathematical and algorithmic background enables you to tackle complex problems. You also have a good understanding of Artificial Intelligence methods.
  • As a second alternative, you have more than 10 years of experience in the railway industry and an interest in automating design activities. Your railway experience includes knowledge of train-level domains such as axle load, gauge, kinematics, and passenger experience.
  • You are pragmatic and structured, comfortable in an ever-changing environment.
  • You possess good oral and written communication skills in English.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Regularly analyzing the state-of-the-art tools in Generative Design, Optimisation calculations, and related entities (start-ups, universities, etc.), as this field evolves rapidly.
  • Absorbing the know-how and activities performed by external entities (e.g., DessiA) on this subject.
  • Defining our automation needs and developing the roadmap for automation processes.
  • Building efficient automation processes that are user-friendly and require minimal training, which includes:
    • Writing specifications for automation needs and leading tool development.
    • Implementing processes into workflows using Python or similar languages on the DessIA platform when relevant.
    • Incorporating métier rules into automation processes as far as possible.
    • Building behavioral models to estimate structural evaluation parameters (e.g., structural integrity with simplified FEA, power consumption, exchange rate).
    • Documenting work for seamless handovers.
  • Applying appropriate management models for developed tools, including training, user support, and license forecasting.
  • Collaborating with variability engineers and managing interactions between tools and processes to ensure full digital continuity (e.g., PLEiADE, DMA, PLM).
  • Liaising with M&T, especially Digital Innovation.
  • Coaching a part-time student involved in bot development.
  • Communicating development progress internally (e.g., newsletters) and externally (conferences, customers).

If you are interested in working within a cross-functional, multicultural team of engineers and experts, we look forward to your application!

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to succeed with us. We guarantee you'll be proud when you travel on our trains with friends or family. If you’re ready for the challenge, we want to hear from you!
