Design Director Role Overview

The Design Director will transform expectations. This multifaceted role focuses on Design, strategic planning & support, with primary accountability for Design Excellence across projects. You will oversee the implementation of best practices and foster a culture of curiosity and innovation that enhances client, peer, and community experiences. What You Will Do
  • Ensure the highest design quality for all projects under your direction and contribute to studio-wide design standards.
  • Serve as the main client interface for design direction, fostering genuine, accountable relationships throughout and beyond each project.
  • Advocate passionately for our clients, aiming to exceed their goals and expectations.
  • Promote diverse perspectives and expansive thinking, working across all design axes to ensure project synergy.
  • Define a project's creative foundation by clarifying goals, strategy, and conceptual direction, guiding the team to deliver the 'big idea' across all touchpoints.
  • Provide expertise throughout all project phases, take calculated risks, and lead teams into innovative explorations. Hold ultimate responsibility for design quality.
  • Champion climate-conscious design, setting impactful directions to meet environmental goals.
  • Integrate resilience and purpose into every project.
  • Mentor future leaders and continually enhance the studio's design culture through resources, discourse, initiatives, and recruitment.
  • Engage in external promotional efforts and leadership within the design community.
  • Participate in advocating sustainable design practices.
  • Foster collaborative and integrated workflows with other disciplines within the studio.
Your Qualifications
  • Experience in Design Management, preferably within Architecture & Design industries.
  • Knowledge of French building regulations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Interior Design or Architecture.
  • At least ten (10) years of Design Management experience.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of interior design and architectural projects.
  • Experience managing consultant teams and resolving complex technical and design issues.
  • Proven ability to deliver excellent client service and lead accounts.
  • Proactive and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong programming and space planning skills.
  • High competence in design, with knowledge of building codes.
  • Proficiency in Revit is desirable.
  • Fluency in French & English.
