The Fluids & Cement Superintendent will lead the engineering and operational oversight of all drilling and completion fluids, cementing, and waste management activities during the 32-well subsea development.
He will ensure technical integrity, safety, and efficiency across both rigs (Noble V-Rig and D-Rig), managing interfaces with drilling, subsurface, completions, and service providers.
Activities
Pre-Operations Phase
- Define and validate drilling and completion fluid programs adapted to Guyana Basin geology
- Design robust cementing programs for conductor, surface, casing, liner, and abandonment stages
- Validate casing accessories, centralization, and displacement procedures for zonal isolation
- Lead fluid hydraulics modeling and cement simulation studies
- Define loss management and ECD control strategies
- Participate in service provider selection and QA/QC plan for fluids, cement, and additives
- Validate laboratory testing protocols and product compatibility
Operational Readiness
- Supervise mobilization and testing of bulk plants, mixing systems, and cementing units
- Ensure all materials meet TEPA and international HSE and technical standards
- Conduct readiness reviews with service companies and verify crew competence
- Align rig-specific operations with Lead Drilling Engineer and Drilling Supervisors
Operational Phase
HSE & Compliance
- Ensure fluid and cement operations meet all safety, environmental and regulatory requirements
- Drive application of TotalEnergies’ HSE Golden Rules in high-risk activities (MPD, high-pressure jobs, losses)
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions for fluid/cement related events
Execution Oversight
- Supervise field execution across both rigs (remote and/or site-based rotation)
- Validate real-time fluid properties and job parameters
- Provide operational support and troubleshooting during cement jobs and mud losses
- Review post-job reports and ensure quality of data reporting in OpenWells, WellView, etc.
- Ensure fluids compatibility throughout drilling, completion and well testing phases
- Coordinate waste management strategy with logistics and environmental teams
Performance Monitoring
- Track KPIs (fluid volumes, losses, job success rate, cost) and benchmark against targets
- Identify and implement performance improvements (chemical use, rig time, conditioning)
- Capture lessons learned and update design accordingly
- Interface with HQ, R&D and third-party experts on technology improvements
Qualifications & Experience Required
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in Fluids & Cement Engineering and Supervision
- Strong background in deepwater, HPHT, and depleted reservoir environments
- Experience in West Africa, South America or Guyana Basin is mandatory
- Proven track record with major international service providers
- Familiarity with narrow pressure margin, high-angle wells, and dual-string cementing
- Deep understanding of fluid hydraulics, rheology, ECD management, and zonal isolation best practices
- Fluent in English; French and/or Portuguese is an advantage
- Strong leadership, coordination, and analytical problem-solving skills
