As we increase hydrogen demand with material handling solutions and on-road commercial vehicles, we experience first-hand the exponential growth of our business. The Group is also developing green H2 production plants strategically located to cover key areas of demand while developing a reliable and cost-effective large-scale transportation network. Plug has over 4bn$ of cash on its balance sheet to build hydrogen generation projects globally and in Europe, and has one of the most ambitious roadmap in the European hydrogen landscape.

Position Summary

A proactive business and solution-oriented attorney to serve as Associate Counsel, Europe to support Plug’s rapid commercial growth in Europe. The Associate Counsel will work directly with Plug’s Director of Legal Affairs and growing Legal Team in Europe on all aspects of advising Plug’s commercial teams on legal and regulatory matters arising from Plug’s global business and the expansion of its products and services into European countries. This individual will interact daily and coordinate across the Finance, Engineering, Sales, HR, Business Development and Operations sections of the Company. The Associate Counsel, Europe will work closely with European colleagues across multiple departments and functions and be based in France with expectations of working in-person in the Paris office for some portion of work hours. This individual must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple competing priorities at once, and is willing to adapt within a dynamic, fast-paced organization. This is a full-time position.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the European Legal Team in advising on legal aspects of operating Plug’s European and international business including sales, product expansion, project development, corporate governance, research and development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including, but not limited to, product development agreements, research collaboration agreements, supply agreements, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property agreements, and other construction, financial, sales, and marketing arrangements.
  • Ensure work product of the highest quality that furthers Plug Power’s strategic goals.
  • Open to travel as and when required.
  • Represent Plug in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one foreign jurisdiction’s bar is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a law firm or legal department of a publicly traded corporation, or a combination thereof is required.
  • Experience providing day-to-day input on business, commercial, and financial strategies, resolving issues that arise in commercial relationships, and triaging legal inquiries is required.
  • Knowledge of contract, commercial, technology, energy, and intellectual property law in a technology and business-growth context and experience of advising on commercial, transactional and technology issues is preferrable.
  • Fully proficient in English and French is required and working proficiency in German, Spanish and / or other European language preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in the Oil and Gas, Chemical and / or Renewable Energy sectors, with European Union policy and subsidy framework as they pertain to emerging renewable energy / hydrogen markets, with GDPR compliance welcome.
  • Must be a self-starting, motivated, assertive, and creative individual with excellent follow-through capabilities.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Superior communication, task-management and time-management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to manage projects and competing priorities and multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to role model high standards of professionalism.
  • Excellent follow-through.
  • Must be driven and self-motivated.
  • Must possess the highest ethical standards and a supreme commitment to quality.
