BeReal is seeking an experienced engineering leader to head its BeReal tech organization. You will guide 12 squads across iOS, Android, and Backend, reporting directly to the CEO. The role focuses on app stability at scale, rapid squad delivery, and maintaining a tight control on infrastructure costs.

You will hire and develop engineers, set the technical strategy with product leadership, and ensure we maintain a high talent bar while shipping with speed and reliability.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in engineering leadership, with experience guiding large teams.
• Proven ability to scale high-traffic consumer products or similar high-throughput systems.
• Architect-level depth and ability to align staff engineers on distributed-systems decisions.
• Strong track record building regression-prevention and distributed teamwork with metrics.
• Experience leading distributed teams via clear writing, metrics, and async decision-making.

• Own stability of a system serving millions of users posting in a short window daily.
• Lead 12 squads across three codebases: iOS, Android, Backend; enforce release discipline and feature flags.
• Oversee infrastructure cost as a P&L line and optimize spend.
• Drive migration from Node.js to Go without slowing delivery.
• Hire, develop, and maintain a high-caliber engineering team.

Role

You will lead BeReal’s engineering organization: 12 squads, around 80 people across tech and product, three codebases (iOS, Android, Backend). You will report directly to BeReal’s CEO. Your mandate: app stability at spike scale, faster squads without regressions, infrastructure cost under control, and a higher talent bar.

What you'll do:

• Own the stability of a system where millions of users post within the same two minutes, every day
• Run 12 squads across three codebases: release discipline, feature flags, platform, developer experience
• Own infrastructure cost as a P&L line: GCP, Cloud Spanner, media delivery at scale
• Complete our Node.js to Go migration without slowing delivery
• Hire exceptional engineers, develop them, and hold the bar
• Set technical strategy with the CEO and product leadership

Profile

• 12+ years in engineering, 6+ leading leaders, in organizations of 80–200+ engineers
• You scaled a high-traffic consumer product or comparable high-throughput infrastructure
• Architect-level depth: you hold your own with staff engineers on distributed-systems trade-offs. No coding test.
• You have built regression-prevention systems for many teams shipping in parallel
• You lead distributed teams through clear writing, metrics, and fast async decisions
• A plus: consumer social, camera or media products, native mobile organizations
