Job Title: Cook at Newrest

Newrest is seeking a Cook responsible for preparing and cooking meals for a major airline at George Bush International Airport, working with a globally renowned company.

Compensation: Paid bi-weekly, starting at $16.00 per hour for pay level I.

Schedule: Varied shifts, including overnight shifts, with flexibility required.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand and execute menu requirements
  • Follow prep lists and plan duties accordingly
  • Prepare, cook, and organize kitchen and food items, including meats, fishes, pastas, and garnishes
  • Cook using various methods such as roasting, frying, steaming, grilling, and baking
  • Handle food prep tasks like cleaning, chopping, measuring, and packaging
  • Prepare sauces and dressings as per standards
  • Manage inventory and replenish supplies as needed
  • Maintain food production records and ensure equipment functionality
  • Ensure all items are prepared, garnished, and ready for service
  • Control portions and forecast production needs
  • Practice good personal hygiene and safety procedures
  • Secure kitchen areas after use and ensure all appliances are turned off
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
  • Adhere to company standards, health, safety, and food safety regulations
  • Assist in sanitation and post-service cleanup
  • Report maintenance issues or unsafe conditions
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Conduct quality checks on food via tasting and smelling
  • Monitor food temperatures to meet safety standards
Qualifications:
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Knowledge of HACCP (training provided if needed)
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a restaurant or catering environment
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, including weekends
