Description du poste

The International Potato Center (CIP) has developed a novel approach that integrates research and development activities aimed at commercializing the Root and Tuber Crops (RTC) subsector, focusing on potato, sweet potato, and cassava. The goal is to increase the subsector’s contribution to food and nutrition security, incomes, job creation, and economic growth in Malawi. Funded by the Embassy of Ireland to Malawi, the 4-year project, titled ‘Market-led Transformation of the Root and Tuber Crops Subsector (RTC-MARKET)’, started on 1st May 2023, with the following objectives:

  1. Develop and promote improved RTC varieties, technologies, and knowledge to support commercial production, value addition, and market linkages.
  2. Enhance availability and access to quality RTC seed and inputs.
  3. Increase production of quality RTCs for domestic and export markets, supporting food and nutrition security.
  4. Boost private sector investment and capacity in processing and marketing RTC value-added products for markets.

To achieve these goals, CIP seeks to engage an experienced M&E consultant with expertise in market/business development models. The consultant will review and refine the model for RTC commercialization and develop a comprehensive framework for monitoring and evaluating the sector’s transformation and commercialization efforts.

Objectives

The consultant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Ensure timely data collection using appropriate tools and update the M&E system.
  • Support and monitor M&E systems of project partners, ensuring correct tool utilization.
  • Mentor and train partners to build M&E capacity.
  • Document lessons learned, including case studies and research findings.
  • Analyze project data and compile reports.
  • Follow up with partners on beneficiary data collection and progress tracking using indicators and targets.
  • Conduct case studies and research on RTC commercialization.
  • Analyze additional project data and prepare reports.
Requirements
  • MSc. in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Project Management, or similar field.
  • Advanced skills in statistical analysis and research.
  • Experience in Data Analysis and M&E system setup and operation.
  • Strong knowledge of database management.
  • Proven publication record of scientific papers.
  • At least 6 years of experience in M&E for donor-funded agricultural projects.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
