Consultant- AI Integration and Strategic Planning

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is seeking a well-versed AI Strategy and Integration Consultant for Research Innovation and Capacity Building.


The project aims to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the research processes of CGIAR centers. This involves identifying and engaging AI champions, conducting consultation workshops, defining Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), developing training themes and materials, organizing a Train-the-Champions Workshop, and conducting a research review on AI’s potential in CGIAR’s work. The project is structured across six main phases with specific internal target dates.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the planning and execution of technical workshops and stakeholder engagements aimed at facilitating the integration of AI into CGIAR Food-Land-Water (FLW) research processes.
  • Develop capacity-building resources and strategic documentation to support the adoption of AI agents by CGIAR researchers.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Certifications or formal training in AI applications, machine learning, or digital innovation are considered an asset.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience leading AI or digital transformation initiatives, preferably in research or academic settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, facilitation of technical workshops, and strategic planning.
  • Familiarity with research processes in the agriculture, environment, or international development sectors is an asset.
  • Proven track record in developing training materials and tools for scientific or technical audiences.

SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation abilities.
  • Ability to translate complex AI concepts into practical tools and training for non-technical users.
  • Proactive, independent, and collaborative work ethic, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables effectively.

This is a nationally recruited consultancy position, therefore only Sri Lankan nationals will be considered. Individuals with relevant qualifications and experience are encouraged to apply. IWMI offers a competitive rate for this assignment, with the contract duration set at seven (7) months.
