Reference Studios is looking for a highly motivated Communications Director to join our team in our new Paris office. With a profound commitment to client service, exceptional client liaison skills, and deep expertise in public relations, the Communications Director will develop and execute comprehensive 360-degree communications strategies, oversee high-impact events and community-building initiatives, and drive the performance of the Communications department.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership , cultivating relationships with senior editors and key opinion leaders, ensuring top-tier media coverage for our clients, and developing a high-performing team delivering exceptional results that align with Reference Studios' vision and standards. Identifying with our brands, content, and values is not only a plus – it is a prerequisite to excel as an ambassador of Reference Studios at all times.
Your Mission:
- Create and ensure strategic/seasonal PR/communications plans are in place with all clients responsible for – aligned with Management and Client.
- Ensure time/action plans in place with all clients responsible.
- Accountability for results delivered weekly/monthly, with ROIs, both internally and externally.
- Ensure that results match standards & expectations of Reference and the Client.
- Coach team and share network wherever there are gaps in the current status quo for a Client versus the expectations.
- Develop team members to commit to mutual ambitions - Reference vision, expectations, standards, responsibilities for PR team/specialists dedicated to clients responsible for.
- Partner effectively with Creative Lead, working cross-functionally effectively across clients, projects & events where required.
- Accountability for delivery of services (incl. events, community, PR, et al) and results for clients responsible for (average of 5-7 clients/projects – depending on scale).
- Direct, empower, and coach the team working on each client/project.
- Cultivate a network of senior editors and KOLs for the benefit of PR/comms opportunities for clients and Reference overall.
- Uphold Reference Studios, and Mumi as Founder, in public relations at all times.
- Contribute proactively to the team build-up of Paris headquarter, step in and lead from front in occasions of capacity/recruitment issues.
- Organise interviews and give opinions in finding the right talent to join Reference.
- Proactively propose and gain new business – focus on high image and/or commercial clients/projects.
- Be an ambassador for Reference Studios - cultural values and knowledge, sensitivity, confidentiality, and respect.
- Synergise clients, brands, community to optimise opportunities for clients of Reference Studios and the agency overall.
- Be an example in terms of senior presence, standards, attitude, and spirit/energy – particularly in the Paris office & showroom, as well as FOH during events.
Your Profile:
- Experience : Minimum of 8 years in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field within the fashion industry (agency or in-house), or within established art institutions/organisations.
- Proven Track Record : Demonstrated success in securing top-tier coverage in print, online, broadcast, and new media. Strong relationships with journalists, stylists, and key influencers.
- Strategic Thinking : Ability to think strategically, understand business challenges, and recommend effective implementation plans designed to drive results.
- Industry Knowledge : Strong knowledge of lifestyle, fashion, arts & culture, as well as daily news media landscapes.
- Team-building Skills : Reactive and proactive with excellent relational skills and a team-oriented mindset; rigorous and precise with a strong respect for deadlines; comfortable in managing and empowering a team.
- Organisational Skills : Excellent organisational skills, superior attention to detail, resilient under pressure, and ability to work quickly and efficiently in a result-driven dynamic environment.
- Technical Skills : Ability to use G-Suite apps; familiarity with brand performance tools (e.g., Launchmetrics, Fashion GPS) and ERP systems preferred.
- Communication Skills : Strong written and oral communication skills in English. Proficiency in French is required, and additional languages (German/Italian) are preferred.
- Personal Attributes : Enthusiastic, curious, and collaborative attitude. Demonstrated leadership and team development skills.
- Presence : Ability to serve as a senior presence in the office and showroom, setting the standard for professionalism and energy.
