Commercial Manager - Subcontracts for HVDC Projects

Responsible for the commercial management and administration of all subcontracts related to civil and installation works for large-scale HVDC projects. Effectively oversee various subcontracts from a commercial perspective, collaborating with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in tender evaluation meetings to understand scope and provide feedback.
  • Assist with procurement queries, detailing scope of work (SoW).
  • Conduct subcontract handover meetings to ensure full understanding of SoW, terms, conditions, and costs, forming the basis for management.
  • Develop subcontract management tools, agendas, and reports.
  • Organize and lead site kickoff meetings with subcontractors.
  • Receive and distribute subcontract reports for review.
  • Manage Non-Conformity Reports (NCR) related to subcontractors.
  • Analyze variation requests and prepare variation orders, communicating with subcontractors.
  • Handle notifications and claims from subcontractors.
  • Process internal and external change orders affecting subcontracts.
  • Request mitigation plans from subcontractors when necessary.
  • Manage Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer if assigned, or perform their roles if not.
  • Verify subcontract payments are properly certified and documented.
  • Monitor project budget and costs, coordinating with cost control.
  • Manage purchase orders and modifications following changes to subcontract scope or costs.
Requirements
  • BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying or related field; chartered status or working towards it is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in heavy/industrial sectors, preferably in energy/HVDC.
  • Proven subcontract management experience, including commercial, contractual, and construction aspects.
  • Technical background advantageous.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple subcontracts efficiently.
  • Proficiency in standard and bespoke contract forms.
  • Excellent MS Office 365 skills.
  • Strong team player with exceptional communication skills across all levels.
  • Analytical, proactive, and innovative in procurement and subcontract management.
  • Independent with minimal supervision, with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Fluent in English and at least one regional language (e.g., German or French).
  • Driving license is required.
