Description du poste

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented Combustion Devices Modelling Engineer to help us in our mission by developing rocket engines using computational engineering, rapidly accelerating the design process by skipping manual intervention and implementing automated processes over the whole engine development.

Instead of designing components in traditional CAD software, computational engineering is about developing computer programs that generate those parts automatically. This only works if the underlying physical models and design rules are clearly defined and suitable for the application. As modelling engineer, your role is to create and improve physical engine models that size and optimize rocket engine's components like, besides others, combustion chambers and injection heads. Your physical models are subsequently used by a computational design algorithm to generate the 3D models to be manufactured using additive manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Combustion Devices Modelling Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:

  • create physical engineering models of rocket engines using Python

    • calculate, size and optimize rocket engine design parameters analytically and numerically

  • add and change features of existing rocket engine models

  • be in close collaboration with the stakeholders of the other propulsion sub-teams to ensure optimal results

  • be in close collaboration with your team, ensuring interfaces between physical and computational models work

  • develop feedback-loops to and from hardware test-data

  • develop connections and feedback-loops to and from simulation environments

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Combustion Devices Modelling Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

  • Masters degree in aerospace / computational engineering science / mechanical engineering / software engineering / computer engineering / computer science or similar

  • Strong Engineering fundamentals in fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and heat transfer

  • Related experience in designing combustion devices

  • Python experience (or similar programming languages)

  • (Plus: Machine learning experience)

  • (Plus: Experience with simulation software)

  • Ability to work independently and corresponding communication skills

  • High motivation and the grit to get the job done

Why you should join us!

What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:

  • We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind

  • We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them

  • We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity, are YOU up for the challenge?

We'd love to hear from you if you wish to be a part of our journey. Please submit your CV now for immediate consideration and we will be in touch shortly.
