The institute is reorganizing its activities in hadronic physics to ensure the participation of its teams in the LHC experiments at CERN up to the end of Run 5, while anticipating longer-term scientific prospects.
This Junior Professorship is part of this restructuring effort, aimed at consolidating the institute's expertise and work in the field of heavy-ion physics, as well as R&D for future projects devoted to studying the structure of the nucleon.

Over the past 15 years, through ANR and ERC funding, the laboratory Laboratoire Leprince Ringuet (LLR) has been able to fund and structure its participation in the CMS collaboration at the LHC, CERN, with a scientific focus particularly centered on heavy-ion physics. These scientific activities have enabled LLR to acquire an undisputed leading role within the CMS collaboration, with an interest in quantum chromodynamics studies carried out using high-energy heavy-ion collisions.

The successful candidate will contribute to scientific data-taking and analysis activities within the CMS collaboration. This work will focus on quantum chromodynamics studies conducted through heavy-ion collisions at the LHC (CERN).
The successful candidate will also take part in R&D activities for the readout electronics of the EEEMCaL electromagnetic calorimeter (ePIC detector of the Electron-Ion Collider), a technology inspired by the electronics used for the CMS calorimeter. Depending on project developments and the institute's strategic directions, the candidate may gradually become involved in activities related to the Electron-Ion Collider, which is expected to start data taking at Brookhaven National Laboratory within about ten years.

The successful candidate will contribute to existing teaching programs related to the research theme. The teaching project will be discussed with École Polytechnique and specified at a later stage so that it is aligned with the profile of the selected candidate.

The CNRS is developing a strong policy in favor of open science. Open science consists of making research results "as accessible as possible and closed as necessary". As such, the CNRS aims to make 100% of the texts of publications resulting from the work of its laboratories accessible , in particular through deposit in HAL. The data produced must also be made available and reusable, except for specific restrictions. In addition, the guiding principles of individual evaluation have been revised in accordance with the DORA declaration, to be more qualitative and to take into account all facets of the researcher's profession.

The dissemination of the results will be done through world-class scientific productions: publications, patents, software... In addition, the results will be communicated to various targets such as scientific communities, media, decision makers, general public, schools, etc., with an adapted calendar. Specific tools may be developed such as websites, newsletters, meetings, international symposia, summer schools and conferences.

The relationship between science and society is now recognized as a full dimension of scientific activity. The project will develop this dimension in synergy with all the partners. The resulting research work will contribute to informing public decision-making. Participatory science initiatives may be initiated with actors from the project's socio-economic and cultural eco-system.
