Descartes Underwriting Group is seeking a Data Scientist intern in Paris to help develop climate models and forecasting tools. You will work closely with software, operations, legal and commercial teams, gaining exposure to parametric insurance and underwriting processes.

The role offers hands‑on modeling experience, collaboration with leading researchers, and opportunities to contribute to the company’s data science stack while developing technical and leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Master’s student in data science, computer science, applied mathematics, statistics or meteorological studies or related.
• Ideally a previous experience (long‑term internship) in data science or climate modeling is valued.

Responsabilités

• Develop and improve climate models and forecasting tools.
• Identify and apply statistical and ML methods to differentiate Descartes from competitors.
• Contribute to the development of Descartes’ tech platform and workflows.
• Collaborate with business teams to translate client needs into technical solutions.
• Grow into management responsibilities as the company expands.
