The LMRe Agriculture & Parametrics team is seeking to enhance its parametric insurance offering by expanding its product design and analytics team. We are currently looking for an additional data-scientist to assist us in improving the development and streamlining of risk assessment tools and processes. The primary objective of this position is to automate statistical and physical analysis, provide support for rating requests from the underwriting team, and contribute to the design of innovative parametric products.

About the Department & Team:

Within Liberty Mutual Re, the Agriculture & Parametrics department offers innovative and digitalized insurance solutions to clients worldwide to mitigate climate change. We address the challenges faced by farmers, cooperatives, large corporations, and governments, leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as satellite imagery, IoT and machine learning. The team has been a pioneer in the field of parametric insurance for more than 20 years and consists of actuaries, data-scientists, agronomists, and engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Seek and use various third-party sources and state-of-the-art methodologies.
  • Develop data-driven solutions and machine learning-based tools.
  • Weather sensitivity analysis of time series and client portfolios.
  • Modelling of weather and natural disaster events (flood, drought, hail, earthquake…)
  • Build user-friendly interfaces to automate processes.
  • Interact with the underwriters to structure and price index-based products.
  • Help design innovative insurance solutions and promote them internally and externally.
  • Adherence to all relevant regulatory requirements forms part of your role, and the demonstration of behaviours as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity. LSM expects you to understand your responsibilities relating to all regulatory and internal requirements, and to proactively demonstrate compliance with these requirements and behaviours at all times. These requirements include the Senior Managers and Certification Regime Conduct Rules ,Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, Financial Crime, Data Protection, Conflicts of Interest, and Whistleblowing.

Skills and Experience:

  • Similar professional experience in data-science applied to (re)insurance, weather, natural hazards and/or agronomic related topics.
  • Wide range of technical skills including statistics and machine learning methodologies.
  • Proficient in R and/or Python.
  • Knowledge in parametric insurance would be a plus.
  • Shiny or dashboarding experience would be a plus.
  • Team player, autonomous, communicator and inquisitive.
  • Professional English level, French and/or Spanish is a plus.
